Gibbie led them to a side entrance to the factory, right beside the smokestack. “This should let us in near the basement stairs if I remember correctly.”

“You act like you’ve been here before,” Dora said.

“Yeah, this factory’s been here for a long time, just like me. There was a time when I hid out in the tunnels beneath the city. People weren’t always so forgiving about having a vampire living next-door.”

Marian snorted. “Like they’re okay with it now. Half the people in the city would crap themselves if they knew a werewolf like me or a vampire like you were their neighbors.”

“Those that know respect us and do their best to get along,”

Gibbie replied. “That’s a lot different than it used to be.”

Hangbe reached out and tried the knob. “It’s locked. How do we plan to get inside, Gibson?”

Gibbie took a step back and looked around. “Well, we can break in with the tools we have, I guess. That’ll make a lot of noise, though.”

Wim pointed to the second floor of the factory. “That window is open. I can probably squeeze through the opening if someone can get me up there.”

Hangbe nodded. “Human pyramid time. Marian, you and I take the base with Gibbie. Then Joanna and Dora climb up on our shoulders, with Kristof spotting and boosting people up. Wim should be able to climb up on top of them and reach the window.”

Everyone nodded and moved over until they stood beneath the open window. Hangbe braced her arms against the building. Beside her, Gibbie and Marian did the same, except they interlocked their arms across the others to form the base of the pyramid. Kristof boosted Joanna and Dora up onto their shoulders. As she climbed and settled into place, she hoped her booted foot wasn’t digging into anyone’s shoulder too badly.

Wim clambered up, steadying herself against the wall as she stretched up. She gripped the windowsill with two hands and scrambled with her feet against the brick as she pulled herself up and into the narrow gap between the open window and the sill. She wriggled in and disappeared.

Joanna jumped down. “Now we wait.”

They all returned to the locked double steel doors, watching and listening for some sign Wim was unlocking them. It took Wim five minutes to find her way down to the first floor and make it to the entrance. The door wasn’t chained on the inside and all she had to do was press on a panic bar to open it. She smiled broadly as she let them into the even darker interior.

None of them needed flashlights. Each had a way to see in the dark. Most of them had that ability inherently. Hangbe and Joanna had a little magical manipulation each enabled as they entered. The interior lit up as bright as day for Joanna as soon as she enabled her Hunter charm’s spell to enhance her vision.

“All right, Gibbie,” Joanna said. “You’ve been here before. Lead the way.”

“I think the stairwell down to the basement is this way.
